Living With Chronic Pain? You Deserve to Feel Heard

Are you living with chronic pain and beginning to feel that your life is getting smaller?

Perhaps ongoing back or neck pain, headaches or widespread aches are taking up more of your day. Fatigue or brain fog may make things harder still. You may feel worried, uncertain or unheard, especially when you have been searching for answers for years.

At Despina’s Chiropractic in Sheffield, supporting people living with persistent pain is a central focus of my work. It starts with taking the time to listen.

A moment that shaped my approach

Early in my career, a patient said something that has stayed with me ever since.

She told me how much it had meant that I had listened, supported and reassured her when she needed it most. Her tests had not provided the answers she hoped for, and she had felt that others had given up on her.

What stayed with me was the importance of feeling that someone was still there for her. That conversation continues to shape the way I practise today.

Your experience deserves to be heard

Living with pain can affect much more than your body. It can change your plans, your confidence and the trust you have in yourself. Activities you once enjoyed may begin to feel out of reach.

Normal test results do not make your experience of pain less real. They are part of the clinical picture, rather than a reason to stop listening. New or changing symptoms still need appropriate assessment.

I want to understand what daily life is like for you: what you are finding difficult, what concerns you, and what you would like to work towards.

A clear plan, built around you

After an assessment, we discuss whether chiropractic care is appropriate and agree realistic goals together. Your plan may include education about pain, practical advice, suitable lifestyle changes and treatment where appropriate.

We review how things are going, adapt the plan and discuss what support you need. My role is to encourage you and help you stay connected to your goals, without blame or pressure when things are difficult. Where another professional is better placed to help, I will recommend referral.

If you live with ME/CFS, your care must respect your energy limits and existing specialist advice. Pushing through symptoms or automatically increasing activity is not the approach. Chiropractic care is not an established treatment for ME/CFS.

Making room for the life that matters to you

Our aim is to help you build confidence, regain a sense of control and feel more supported in managing daily life. Progress looks different for everyone, and symptoms can fluctuate. Sometimes meaningful progress is being able to do more of what matters to you, even when pain has not disappeared.

Seeing someone begin to feel that there is more room in their life again is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. It is a privilege to support people through that process.

Feel heard. Build confidence. Regain a sense of control.

If this feels familiar, find out what to expect or book an assessment at Despina’s Chiropractic in Sheffield. We can start with a conversation about your experience and the care that may be right for you.
